Sylvester Turner, Mayor of the City of Houston, has proclaimed October 25, 2022 as ArtHouston Magazine Day.
The proclamation reads:
WHEREAS, John Bernhard had a dream to create ArtHouston, a magazine which would bring Houston art and artists to the world. He had the firm belief that Houston deserved to be in the conversation as one of the top art cities in the world, and he was determined to get it there; and
WHEREAS, after the initial launch in September 2014, John Bernhard embraced the challenge with commitment, as ArtHouston strives to be the voice of our vibrant art community. ArtHouston fills a void in Houston to showcase this thriving arts scene with professional resident companies, five recognized Art Districts, and the country’s fourth largest Museum District.
WHEREAS, ArtHouston is the only magazine devoted to the fine art market in Houston and is distributed for free at select art institutions, galleries, art fairs and other outlets throughout the city. ArtHouston covers all arts disciplines in depth, from performing and visual art to music and film, and is the ultimate resource for connoisseurs, collectors, and art afficionados.
WHEREAS, Throughout the unprecedented challenges presented by the events of 2020, ArtHouston continued to publish. It was during that time that an electronic version of the magazine, was created, which is now provided by email, through partnerships with Houston performing arts groups, to over 300,000 recipients, which brings the total readership to 775,000.
WHEREAS, Houston continues to evolve nationally and internationally as a culturally rich city, ArtHouston has become a necessary asset. It provides residents and visitors with a diverse source of information covering the wide fields of Houston’s arts, culture, design, and events.
The City of Houston commends and appreciates ArtHouston magazine and its founder for its worthwhile efforts in spreading all forms of fine art in an accessible and engaging way throughout the city of Houston and extends best wishes for its continued success.
THEREFORE, I, Sylvester Turner, Mayor of the City of Houston, do hereby proclaim Tuesday October 25, 2022, as: “ARTHOUSTON MAGAZINE DAY”
